The eldest son of Thomas Webb and Mary (Hall), this artist is said to begun his career as a clock and watchman, but by 1819 was recognised as great painter. From Tamworth in Staffordshire, he later moved to Melton Mowbray, and then to London. He exhibited six paintings at the RA between 1819-1828, and exhibited another painting in 1844 from Melton Mowbray. Amongst his patrons were the Duke of Richmond, and F. Lawley, Esq. William Webb's work was of very good quality. His hunting scened were in the same vogue as Henry Alken. |
