Ward as a prominent mezzotint and occasional stipple engraver of portraits, decorative, genre and sporting subjects. Born in London, he was the elder brother of the painter, James Ward. He married the sister of George Morland, many of whose paintings he engraved. He was appointed mezzotint engraver to the Duke of York in 1803, and engraver to the Duke of Clarence, later King William IV. |
