William Frank Calderon R.O.I.
(English, 1865 -1943 )

The son of Philipe Calderon, R. A., Frank Calderon studied at the Slade under Le Gros. He painted landscape, portraits and sporting scenes. In 1894 he founded the School of Animal Painting where Munnings, Lionel Edwards, and Cecil Aldin were Pupils. An outstanding draftsman and sketcher, he was less happy with his larger canvases. His Horse Fair exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1894, was considered one of his best works. He published Animal Painting and Anatomy in 1936. He exhibited four works at the Royal Academy from 1826 to 1918.
