Rene Merelle
(French, b. 1903 )

Rene Merelle was born in Saint Germain en Laye. He started with drawing lessons, became interested in decoration, and enrolled in Fine Arts, in the sculpture section in the studio of Jean Boucher and Lejeune. After having gained a little publicity, for illustration or conception of draped fabric, he became a sculptor in his own right. More and more drawn to Animalier sculpture, he made busts, diverse subjects, medals and public monuments.
His bronzes were often cast using the lost wax process by the Valsuani foundry.
