Original works of art

Otto Eerelman
(Dutch, 1839 -1926 )

Eerelman specialised in the depiction of dogs and other animals, in oil, watercolour and sketches. He studied at the Minerva Academy in Groningen under J.H. Egenberger, and later at the Antwerp Academy, in Paris and in Brussels. He lived in The Hague and Arnhem before returning to Groningen in 1907 where he taught at the Mineerva Academy.

Eerelman's work is characterised by a deep understanding of anatomy and a soft painterly brush stroke. He seems to have made a speciality of puppies, completing many of playing Saint Bernards.
