Narcisse Virgille Diaz de Pena
(French, 1808 -1876 )

A member of The Barbizon School, Diaz de la Pena was primarily a landscape painter who has become known for his skill at depicting the flickering light and shaded nuances of the forests of Barbizon, south of Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1831, 1834 and 1835. His mature style developed after 1837 at which time he had painted with P. E. T. Rousseau at Barbizon. His work is well represented in both European and American museums.
