The sister of Edwin Megargee, Mildred, also did many portraits of pure-bred dogs, although usually on a small scale. Unlike her elder brother, Edwin, she only spent a month at the Art Students League, but otherwise did not study formally. Beginning as an illustrator, she did some commercial work, but came to specialize in small scale studies of dogs which she painted on a variety of decorative boxes. She painted many of the top winning dogs of the 1930's and eventually came to work in a larger scale. |
