Marie-Didière Calves
(French, 1883 -1957 )

Marie-Didière Calves, born 1883 was trained by her father, a well-known Parisian artist of the mid-1800s. Marie became very skilled at a young age, winning the Silver Medal at the Salon Des Artistes Francais in 1895, at the age of 12. She went on to paint scenes with horses and sheep, but eventually specialized in hunt scenes, specifically dogs, dogs on the hunt and hounds in particular. She was a recognized member of the Socie´te´ des Artistes Franc¸ais and won several awards from 1895-1938.
