Karl (Karlo Constantin Heinrich) Steffeck
(German, 1818 -1890 )

Steffeck studied at the Berlin academy with Kruger and with Paul Delaroche in Paris. He then travelled to Rome to study from 1840 to 1842. In addition to painting he also did lithographs and engravings. He became a member of the Berlin Academy and the Academy of Vienna. In 1855 received medals at the Paris Salon and received the Legion of Honour the same year. In 1863 he exhibited, “Steeple-Chase” at the Royal Academy. He was a professor at the Academy Koenigsberg and in 1880 became Director.
