John T. Peele
(English, 1822 -1897 )

Peele was a painter of genre, landscape and portraits. He was born in Peterborough, England, but came to America at the age of 12. He settled in Buffalo where he began painting, He studied in New York, then worked in Albany for two years as a portrait painter. Returning to New York, he was elected as a member of the National Academy of Design. About 1851 he came to London, where he remained, except for stays in Liverpool and the Isle of Man. He exhibited at Suffolk Street and at the Royal Academy between 1852 and 1891 and the British Institution.
