George Cole |
(English, 1810 -1883 ) |
Early in his career Cole was a painter of horses and dogs, turning to landscape later in his life. One of his first commissions was to paint a series of posters for a travelling circus. He then studied animal painting more seriously, going to Holland to study the Dutch Masters. Returning to London, he exhibited portraits, landscapes and animal subjects from about 1840, including nineteen paintings at the RA. |
