Constant Troyon
(French, 1810 -1865 )

Constant Troyon was a leading landscape and animal painter of the Barbizon School of artists.

Initially working in a conventional style, Camille Roqueplan introduced him to the Barbizon School of painters. He met t. Rousseau in 1843 and went to the Barbizon area south of Paris to work.

Traveling to Holland and Belgium, he was influence by the work of the animal painters Paul Potter and Albert Cuyp and animals eventually became his primary focus. In 1847 he was elected a member of The Amsterdam Academy , later receiving he Belgian Cross of Leopold. In 1849 he became a chevalier of the Legion of Honour. His work is represented in major museums around the world.
